5/5. Stadium powered guitar riffs Zak Wylde would drool to perform. Sounds like an unlikely connection considering Immortal was one of the premier Nordic black metal bands, but they pull out of the stop on this hard rocking release. Instead of allowing the tremolo guitar riffs to sustain and create atmosphere, like their counterparts Darkthrone, Immortal interrupts the riffs, giving the music a chugging thrashy classic metal sound. Add in the adventureous prog metal tendencies in their well thoughtout compositions, and you got yourself an albums worth of “Guitar Hero” style workouts, albiet “Black Metal” style, that will make all those Burzum purists cringe. I love it!
